Brown Street to Get Makeover

This morning Dayton City Commission voted on a plan that would repair and resurface the stretch of road from Miami Valley Hospital to Irving Street.  

Four out of the five city commissioners were present for the vote, approving the $4.4 million dollar plan unanimously.  Kery Gray, Executive Assistant to the Dayton City Commission, says a pre-construction meeting will be held tomorrow (Friday).

DDN: Ohio City Joins List of Those Banning Begging

 An Ohio city has joined a list of several communities banning people from begging after authorities say the number of such incidents has soared.

The Dayton Daily News reports Wednesday that police in Centerville have responded to 17 complaints about begging since July, compared to just four complaints in the previous 12 months.

Centerville Police Chief Bruce Robertson says several incidents involve panhandlers on a street near Interstate I-675, raising concerns about the activity causing traffic accidents.

Bowlers Bringing Tournament and Money to Springfield

Springfield is preparing to host for the first time in 10 years, the Ohio Women's Bowling Association's state tournament and convention. It is estimated that the 13 week event will generate nearly one million dollars to the city's economy.

Springfield has hosted the Ohio Women's Bowling tournament every 10 years since 1952. Vickie Sibole is the president of the Springfield District Bowling Association.
