New Funding to Help Homeless in Montgomery County

Funds from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development are providing some additional support for the homeless. WYSO’s Jerry Kenney has the details.

Nearly $700,000 dollars are coming to Montgomery County HUD agencies. Debbie Watts Robinson is CEO with Miami Valley Housing Opportunities.

MVHO received $325,000 in grant money – that will go towards the purchase of 12 housing units for single adults with disabilities.

Report: Agreement in Cincinnati Occupy Disputes

A newspaper reports an agreement has been reached between the city of Cincinnati and Occupy protesters charged last year after police say they trespassed or refused to leave a public park at closing.

The Cincinnati Enquirer reports the agreement expected to be filed Monday says a portion of the downtown Piatt Park will be a 24-hour public space beginning next week.  Cincinnati City Solicitor John Curp told the newspaper Sunday the agreement also prohibits encampments and tents.

It also ends a federal lawsuit against the city.

Obama, Cameron to Give TV Interview at NCAA Game

President Barack Obama and British Prime Minister David Cameron are attending the kick-off game of the NCAA Tournament in Dayton tomorrow night.  It’s one stop on the prime minister's official visit to the United States. The two world-leaders will be interviewed together at halftime.

Sportscaster Clark Kellogg will talk to them for CBS and Turner Sports during the "First Four" matchup between Mississippi Valley State and Western Kentucky on Tuesday night.

The game starts at 6:30 p.m. EDT.

DDN:Ohio VA Clinic Paid $940K in Cases Over 8 Deaths

DAYTON, Ohio(AP) - Public records show the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs paid out $940,000 in cases related to the deaths of eight Dayton VA Medical Center patients.

The center came under scrutiny last year after allegations of improper hygiene by a dentist at a clinic. Records requested and obtained by the Dayton Daily News reveal the center has faced 72 medical malpractice claims since 2007, including those related to eight deaths between 2005 and 2008. There are pending claims over two deaths in 2009 and 2010.
