Dayton to Paint Itself as 'Immigrant-Friendly'

Officials have given unanimous approval to Dayton's "immigrant-friendly" plan aimed at bolstering a shrinking population.

Dayton Mayor Gary Leitzell read a statement during Wednesday's city commission meeting saying the Welcome Dayton program is not about harboring illegal immigrants or drawing them into the city. He says the focus instead is on treating all people kindly, fairly and humanely.

What's Great in Dayton: September 30 - October 7, 2011

Gearfest is the Midwest Outdoor Experience. All kind of things including camping, competitions, regional music acts, exciting demos, and Friday and Saturday, a night beer garden. It’s at the Eastwood Metro Park.

A new, interactive exhibit is at the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery and it is all about the Miami Valley’s extraordinary water resources. It’s called "SPLASH."

Suspect In Central State Athlete's Death In Custody

Police say a man suspected of fatally shooting a Central State University football player at a Dayton nightclub has turned himself in.

Police say 30-year-old Jason Shern turned himself in Tuesday. Police Sgt. Dan Mauch says an arrest warrant charging Shern with murder and felonious assault was issued last week. Court records do not list Shern's attorney.
