Same-Sex Marriage Advocates Say Now Is The Time To Overturn Ohio's Ban

Emily McCord is joined by Ian James from the organization Freedom To Marry for this week's PoliticsOhio. James says their group is working to put an issue on the ballot to overturn Ohio's ban on same-sex marriage. He says this week's announcement by a prominent Ohio Republican, Jim Petro, underscores a momentum towards supports of the cause. James says the group needs Republicans to win the issue in Ohio and the best way to do that is bring on Republicans like Petro in leadership roles to convince voters.

Governor Kasich signed the state budget late Sunday night, and within it, several laws that restrict abortion access. Striking A Balance: Privacy Rights Verses Security

Since it was revealed that the government has been collecting phone and internet records of Americans, lawmakers have been debating whether or this is a necessary tool for fighting terrorism or a breach of privacy law. University of Dayton law professor Thaddeus Hoffmeister joins Emily McCord for PoliticsOhio. He says the government is within its right to perform this type of surveillance, but the scope of the data in this case is unprecedented. Hoffmeister says he hopes it will spur the public to consider the fine line between what should be private and national security.
