Skratchmatik Turntable Crew Live on Kaleidoscope & a Dynamite Soul 2 Preview

This Saturday marks the second Dynamite Soul block party event in Yellow Springs.  Designed as both a thank you to the community and a preview of this year's CyclopsFest, this free family-friendly event will feature performances from Columbus' Turntable Philanthropy and Dayton-based Skratchmatik Turntable Crew, who visited the WYSO studios for alive performance on Kaleidoscope.

Dynamite Soul 2 co-organizer Brian Johnson also stopped by to talk more about the event, which takes place Saturday May 18th, 5-10pm in the Kings Yard in Yellow Springs.

Side Show 8 Bringing Together Eclectic Mix of Art & Music

From its earliest days as a chance for local artists to how their work outside of a traditional gallery setting, the Dayton Side Show has lived up to its promise of being "an event of grand proportions."  This year's show bring together over 200 artists, musicians and volunteers to create two free days of creativity at the Old Yellow Cab Building in downtown Dayton. 

Nasty Bingo will perform as part of Side Show 8's Saturday evening lineup and gave a preview performance live from the WYSO studios.

Signs of Life Celebrates 40 Years of Dark Side of the Moon With First Arena Show

Over the past few years, Signs of Life has been building their reputation and their audience among the region's Pink Floyd fans.  This weekend marks two big milestones: a local celebration of the 40th anniversary of Dark Side of the Moon and Signs of Life's first arena show.  Singer and bandleader Jon Stankorb sat down to chat with Kaleidoscope host Juliet Fromholt about the Dark Side of the Moon album and what these to milestones mean for the band.

Signs of Life will perform on May 4th at Troy's Hobart Arena.

Charlie Tipton Live on Kaleidoscope

Charlie Tipton

Charlie Tipton remembers the first time he picked up a guitar and his early years playing electric guitar and honing his craft as a songwriter as he learned the instrument.  Now performing both as a solo artist and with a full band, Tipton is aiming to release an album later this year.  Charlie Tipton visited the WYSO studios for an acoustic set and spoke with Kaleidoscope host Juliet Fromholt about developing his craft as a songwriter and the differences between performing solo and with a band.

Shakespeare For Life Giving Back With Words

Modeled on the popular Relay for Life fundraiser, Shakespeare for Life uses the works of the Bard to give back to those in need.  It's a week-long, marathon reading of Shakespeare's plays culminating in a closing ceremony that honors the memory of loved ones lost to cancer.  Free Shakespeare's Chris Shea spoke with Kaleidoscope host Juliet Fromholt about how people can get involved in this signature event and what's coming up this summer from Free Shakespeare.
