Live on Kaleidoscope: The Fair Shakes

Nick Kizirnis and John Dubuc began playing together in The Obvious in the 1980s at Canal Street Tavern where Deni Wilson ran sound.  Year later, the trio formed the Fair Shakes and their reggae rock alter-egos, The Rude Boys.  Here the Fair Shakes perform live on Kaliedoscope and chat with host Juliet Fromholt about their roots in the Dayton Music scene, balancing two bands and upcoming shows.

Live on Kaleidoscope: We Were Animals

When Ed. Vs. Radio disbanded, Jason Gilmore and Nigel Verboon decided that they wanted to continue playing together, but they wanted to do something different from the pop-punk style they had been playing together for years.  This experimentation led to the creation of We Were Animals and the addition of I Died Trying's Mark on drums.  The band has released a two song demo with plans for a full album release in July.

Live on Kaleidoscope: Starving in the Belly of the Whale

Having gained several new members since their last apperance on Kaleidoscope, Starving in the Belly of the Whale returns to the WYSO studios to perform some new songs.  A fluid lineup of players joins frontman Ricky Terrell onstage and on the new album the band just finished recording.  The album is set to be released later this summer and will be free as are the band's previous releases.  Here the band discusses plans for the rest of the year and how their writing and recording process has evolved to accommodate a rotating lineup.

Live on Kaleidoscope: Kris N

Credit Cherry Fullam

Much like this previous release, Lo-fi Movement, Kris N's new album was recorded at home.  Prior to recording the songs that would become Heartscarf, he recorded two other albums worth of material but decided that the current songs were the right ones to release.

Kris N returned to the WYSO studios to perform tracks from Heartscarf live and spoke with Kaleidoscope host Juliet Fromholt about recording in the moment and the idea of the heart scarf, which was conceptualized with visual artist Cherry Fullam.  Heartscarf will be released on June 24th via Poptek Records.
