- This Labor Day weekend we take a look at the economy in our state, and there has been some good news: unemployment is down to pre-Recession levels. But there are some negative trends, too. Wage growth hasn’t nearly kept up with growing productivity in the economy—last year, wages in the state ticked down to a median of 16 dollars and five cents, lagging just behind the national median. Amy Hanauer, director of the left-leaning think tank Policy Matters Ohio, says inequality is growing in the state. She talked to WYSO’s Lewis Wallace.
- The non-profit Arthur Morgan Institute for Community Solutions was founded in 1940. They advocate for "small communities and the benefits of face-to-face relationships." Since 2003, their focus has been "to provide resources for low-carbon living and to inspire collective, cooperative solutions in the face of peak energy and climate change." That’s the focus of this year’s annual conference coming up September 25th through the 27th. I spoke with Executive Director Susan Jennings and Lance Hetzler to find out more about it.

The series is co-curated by Dr. Kimberly Barrett, vice president of multicultural affairs and community engagement at Wright State University. We’ll hear from Dr. Barret in just a moment. Are there pieces of your identity that are frequently misunderstood, invisible, or visible in complicated ways? If you could make one wish about race and identity, what would it be?
