- Women’s Voices from Dayton Correctional Institution
- A bill pending in the Ohio senate would allow victims of violent crimes to register to vote anonymously. The bill stems from Secretary of State Jon Husted’s “Safe at Home” initiative. We spoke to him by phone this week to get the details.
- Both County prosecutors and victim’ advocate groups are backing Husted's effort. Laura Baxter with Project Woman of Springfield and Clark County says her organization already helps victims with address privacy issues, and a statewide program would be welcome. She also says the law would provide even more benefits for victims.
- Zombie High School is a new collaborative podcast from YSKP and WYSO. The first episode launched this weekend at wyso.org. - In the years after World War II, Main Street in the City of Miamisburg was bustling. Quaint mom and pop shops and eateries drew visitors from all over the Miami Valley. But, things changed. The rise of shopping malls in the 70s and the loss of long-standing local business families in the 90s left many buildings on the street vacant. But, that’s all starting to turn around thanks in part to the reopening of the Plaza Theatre, a once shuttered 96 year-old movie theater at the center of town. WYSO’s April Laissle took a tour.
- There are estimates that say one out of 3 adjunct teachers across the country are living in poverty. And the summer months, when most students are on break, are especially tough. To counter that seasonal economic downturn, 14 Dayton artists are hope you’ll put your money where their art is, during a one-night-only, pop-up art event called Feed the Adjuncts. This week we talked to three of the artists involved in the event, Colleen Kelsey, Jean Koeller, Wesley Berg, who came up with the idea. Feed the Adjuncts takes place at the Front Street Warehouse on Friday May 20th from 6 to 10 pm. You can find more information on Facebook.
