WYSO Weekend: March 16, 2014

In this edition of WYSO Weekend:

  • Huber Heights has announced plans to seek an income tax increase on the November ballot. As WYSO’s Lewis Wallace reports, the city is predicting budget shortfalls of 2.3 million dollars a year.
  • Politics Ohio with WYSO News Director Emily McCord.
  • Greene County Sheriff's Major Eric Spicer has retained a lawyer to challenge his recent termination. WYSO's Wayne Baker reports, that Spicer was relieved of his duties following an internal investigation related to the July 2013 police standoff with a Yellow Springs resident.
  • Cities across the country have been given a deadline extension to apply for federal money to support manufacturing. Dayton and Cincinnati are filing a joint application for the funds. 
  • Ten federal agencies will distribute $1.3 billion dollars to 12 designated ‘manufacturing communities’ nationwide. Dayton, Cincinnati, Montgomery County and the Dayton Development Coalition are all collaborating on regional application.  The federal program is called "Investing in Manufacturing Communities Partnership.

Jerry began volunteering at WYSO in 1991 and hosting Sunday night's Alpha Rhythms in 1992. He joined the YSO staff in 2007 as Morning Edition Host, then All Things Considered. He's hosted Sunday morning's WYSO Weekend since 2008 and produced several radio dramas and specials . In 2009 Jerry received the Best Feature award from Public Radio News Directors Inc., and was named the 2023 winner of the Ohio Associated Press Media Editors Best Anchor/News Host award. His current, heart-felt projects include the occasional series Bulletin Board Diaries, which focuses on local, old-school advertisers and small business owners. He has also returned as the co-host Alpha Rhythms.<br/>
