WYSO Weekend

In this edition of WYSO Weekend: WYSO’s Dave Barber takes a look at baseball legend Pete Rose ahead of this Tuesday’s All Star Game where Rose will make an appearance.  We’ve got Dayton Youth Radio and Climate Commentary from Bob Brecha. And YSO Music Director Niki Dakota will give us the scoop on our Open House taking place today. See full details below.

  • Earlier this week health officials in Dayton announced their support of the HIV prevention drug Truvada. Once used to treat HIV positive individuals, the drug was approved by the Food and Drug Administration three years ago as a Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis or preventative medicine for people who are HIV negative. Last year the Centers for Disease Control joined in with their support and now public health agencies doing the same.  We spoke Jeff Cooper the health commissioner with Public Health Dayton and Montgomery County.
  • The organizations that came together to form AIDS Resource Center Ohio have been following the evolution of HIV/AIDS since the mid-eighties. To find out more details on Truvada and its possible impact, I spoke with ARC Ohio CEO and President Bill Hardy. *If you’re interested in learning more about Truvada or HIV/AIDS both Public Health Dayton and Montgomery Countyand ARC Ohio have information on their websites.
  • A quick conversation with YSO Music Director about the WYSOOpen House which kicks off in just a couple of hours!
  • Baseball's All Star Game comes to Cincinnati on Tuesday and controversial Reds legend Pete Rose is scheduled to be on the field. This spring, Rose applied to the commissioner of Major League Baseball for reinstatement, 26 years after he was banned from baseball for gambling. Community Voices producer Dave Barber explores baseball's complicated relationship with the man known as THE HIT KING.
  • One of the common impressions we have about environmental issues is that there will always be a tradeoff between economic growth and protecting the environment. University of Dayton professor Bob Brecha takes a look at new reports about the economics of avoiding climate change.
  • Dayton Youth Radio with Basim Blunt.
