WYSO Weekend: July 12, 2015

In this edition of WYSO Weekend: WYSO’s Dave Barber takes a look at baseball legend Pete Rose ahead of this Tuesday’s All Star Game where Rose will make an appearance.  We’ve got Dayton Youth Radio and Climate Commentary from Bob Brecha. • Earlier this week health officials in Dayton announced their support of the HIV prevention drug Truvada. Once used to treat HIV positive individuals, the drug was approved by the Food and Drug Administration three years ago as a Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis or preventative medicine for people who are HIV negative. Last year the Centers for Disease Control joined in with their support and now public health agencies doing the same.  We spoke Jeff Cooper the health commissioner with Public Health Dayton and Montgomery County.
• The organizations that came together to form AIDS Resource Center Ohio have been following the evolution of HIV/AIDS since the mid-eighties. • Baseball's All Star Game comes to Cincinnati on Tuesday and controversial Reds legend Pete Rose is scheduled to be on the field. This spring, Rose applied to the commissioner of Major League Baseball for re­instatement, 26 years after he was banned from baseball for gambling.
