- It’s that time of year again...the time when many of us return to our lapsed gym memberships, or perhaps resolve to get in shape in the new year. Gyms and health clubs have been a growth market for decades now...and it turns out the fastest-growing group for gym membership is older people, the 55-plus crowd. As WYSO’s Lewis Wallace reports, some fitness centers are trying to tailor their programs and their vibe to seniors.
- Just about every big player in Ohio politics got behind Issue 1 this year. That was the plan to change how state legislative districts are drawn. Those district boundaries are seen as playing a major role in determining which party controls lawmaking at the Statehouse. But Issue 1 did nothing to change who draws Congressional districts. From Ohio Public Radio station WCPN, Nick Castele reports.
- State leaders started 2015 with several important issues to tackle in the energy industry. And as it turns out, as the year came to a close, many of those questions remain unanswered. Statehouse correspondent Andy Chow reports.
- The National Museum of the United States Air Force is the oldest and largest military aviation museum in the world, and for many local men and women, it holds an enduring significance. Air Force veteran and Wright State student, Matt Bauer of Vandalia, has today’s Veterans’ Voices story.
- At Antioch College, there are solar array fields with solar panels that soak up the sun and convert it to energy for the college to use. These have been around for a couple of years, and have worked extremely well for the college. For a few years on the Antioch College Farm, sheep have been raised for meat for consumption in the dining halls. This year, Antioch College implemented a new program where they combined these two things together, the solar array and the sheep, to make a pilot program to cut down on fossil fuel emissions. - It's now possible to choose where you get your electricity from by signing up for options including renewable energy. Commentator and UD Professor Bob Brecha asks how we know if our electricity is really green.
