WYSO Weekend: April 26, 2015

WYSO Weekend

In this WYSO Weekend - A 'Wicked' interview with Lisa Wagner from the Victoria Theatre Association, and we’ll tell you about the Big Love Expo taking place Sunday – a wedding expo serving the LGBT Community. And a Miami Valley mom who’s created an app for parents and kids.  See full details below.

  • Summer will soon be here and thousands of kids will know the glory of summer break once again. Soon after, many parents may find themselves longing for the first day back to class. One local parent says keeping kids engaged over the summer months can be a challenge so she’s developed an app that gives parents quick access to hundreds of kids camps taking place right here in the Miami Valley. I sat down with Anne Potter for a conversation about the new app for parents – Camps Rock!
  • The pop-culture phenomenon Wicked comes back to the Shuster Center for a three week run, and this time around some lucky patrons will get to see the show for free. To find out about how the theatre plans to do this, we spoke with the VP of Hospitality and Ticketing at the Victoria – Lisa Wagner.  She also tells us about some scam ticket sales web sites that have popped up, and what to watch out for.
  • On Miami Valley StoryCorps we bring you conversations between local people who went to the StoryCorps booth in Dayton last spring. Today we meet Guy Jones from Dayton, who came with his friend Jean Berry. Guy had lots of memories of growing up with his Lakota grandmother.
  • Outlook Ohio Magazine is producing a series of LGBT Wedding Expos across Ohio.  The takes place in Dayton at the Hilton Garden Inn. Outlook President and CEO, Chris Hayes, says more than fifty vendors will be on hand at the expo, which he calls a “safe space for the community and an good opportunity for vendors to tap into a lucrative, emerging market.”  In this interview, Hayes talks about the expo, LGBT issues in Ohio, and about Outlook Ohio Magazine.
  • WYSO's Bill Felker brings clarity to the living world around us in Poor Will's Miami Valley Almanack.
