WYSO Weekend: April 19, 2015

WYSO Weekend

In this edition of WYSO Weekend: In Miami Valley StoryCorps, a mother and daughter talk sex and relationships. We’ll hear about events taking place at Central State University, and you'll hear about an eclectic outdoor market taking place in Dayton today. And we’ll throw a little music in the mix. See full details below.

  • The largest structure in downtown Springfield, the Crowell-Collier Building, once home to one of the biggest publishing companies in the country, is being demolished. But the project hasn't gone as planned as several court-ordered deadlines  have been missed, and for some it’s considered controversial. The Mosier Industrial Services Corp. bought the building for $1.5 million in 2011. WYSO's Wayne Baker spoke with the company's project manager, Russell Watts, about the demolition effort.
  • Central State University has a couple of events coming up worth noting – both deal with health and education, and to tell us the details we spoke with Edwina Blackwell-Clark in the Central State communications office.
  • On Miami Valley StoryCorps we bring you conversations between local people who went to the StoryCorps booth in Dayton last spring. Today we meet Tahja Archie, who visited the StoryCorps booth with her mother, Nava Archie. As part of their conversation about Tahja's sexuality, they talked about relationships, including Tahja's most recent one.
  • Today in Dayton, the Third on 3rd Eclectic Outdoor Market comes around again.  It was extremely popular when it began last year and Wednesday on Kaleidescope, Juliet Fromholt spoke with Peter Benkendorf, one of the organizers of the event.  Here’s part of their conversation. And at the end of this interview Juliet will introduce one of the bands performing at Third on Third St. - Beracha Valley.
