Wright-Patt Unit To Take Meals to Haiti

A unit from Wright-Patterson Air Force base plans to deliver more than 500 meals from a nonprofit group for residents of Haiti.

Officials at Wright-Patt  say a 445th Airlift Wing unit will leave this morning to deliver about 541,000 meals consisting of dried and sealed food packets to the impoverished country.

Wright-Patt  officials say the food is provided by Kids Against Hunger, a ministry of A Child's Hope International from Cincinnati. They say it is part of a program that allows U.S. based non-governmental sources to transport humanitarian aid at little or no cost. It also puts extra space on U.S. military transport equipment to good use.

The program is administered by the U.S. Agency for International Development and the departments of State and Defense.
