What's Great in Dayton: October 17 - 23, 2014

On Saturday from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. teen anime and manga fans will converge on the Dayton Metro Main Library for the fifth annual AniMangaCon, a celebration of Japanese animation and cartooning. The event is free and open to anyone in grades 7-12 with an interest in manga, anime, drawing, Japanese culture, and costuming.

SuburbiCon: A Comic Creator Expo. Rosewood is presenting an all-new, FREE event Saturday from 9am–3pm. This features numerous professional comic book artists and writers. These pros will demo their work, talk about their craft, offer work for sale and join informative panel discussions.

The South Slavic Club of Dayton brings Talija, a folk dance ensemble from Belgrade, Serbia to Bellbrook High School on Sunday at 2:00pm. This is a concert featuring music and dances of Serbia and Eastern Europe. 25 professional dancers and musicians wear authentic costumes from various countries of the region.

An OLD TIME CRAFT DAY is Sunday 2:00 to 5:00, at the Heritage Village on Old Main Street in Miamisburg. Admission and refreshments are free. It features crafters demonstrating specialty skills common in the 1800s like blacksmithing, woodworking, weaving, spinning, basketry and more.

Jeff Akers, a local artist, is releasing his riveting new short film ILLUMINATION. This brings to light the mindset of an unbeliever who continues to deny that God is real. The film is set in current reality but personifies new age technology and the power it can have on those in control of it. Sunday, 5:30pm, 30 minutes, at The Neon.
