What's Great in Dayton: May 4 - 10, 2012
First Friday tonight in Downtown Dayton and there is a free art hop from 5 to 10 p.m. First Friday lets you explore downtown and you can browse galleries, restaurants, downtown businesses, and live music.
Check out the new CADC, ….this originally was the Cannery Arts & Design Center, and they have relocated and are now at 35 S. St. Clair St . The CADC will host a soft opening on First Friday for a sneak peak at its new space . As you are wandering around you will be hearing REV. COOL'S AROUND THE FRINGE since lots of places have dialed their radio to 91.3 WYSO.
Bridge Paint Day is Saturday and there are lots of opportunities for volunteers to help! There are painting activities, table opportunities and general motivational support roles for the day. (By the way – painting volunteer skill levels range from detailed outlining work, to fill-in-the-blank paint-by-number style.)
Salem Avenue Clean-up! (from Hillcrest to Riverview Ave.) is Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Volunteers are needed and should report to 1001 Harvard Blvd. (Grace United Methodist Church). Businesses, churches, schools and neighborhoods come and help, to clean up Salem Avenue. Bring your brooms, rakes, gloves and friends.
The Derby Day Dash is also Saturday. It starts at 9:00 a.m. They have their annual 5K Run and Walk and it involves people of every age and coincides with the Kentucky Derby. The professionally designed course starts and ends at RiverScape. Once everyone has finished the race, prizes are awarded for participants in various age categories, farthest distance traveled, and best hat!
