What's Great in Dayton: July 4 - 10, 2014

Remember the famous movie Rebel Without A Cause? This is probably James Dean's most iconic role. You can see it tonight and this weekend at The Victoria. They are doing the Cool Film Series now starting with Rebel Without A Cause.

And at The Loft Theatre is Play It By Heart. It's the passing of the torch in a country music dynasty as a superstar’s long career draws to a close. A musical about heartbreak and healing, this regional premiere comes alive with an exciting original score filled with new songs. I saw this and it is an amazing show. It wraps up this weekend.

The Miami Valley Art Quilt Network has their latest exhibition, Magic in Fabric. These artists have translated to fabric their experiences and what they love most about our Five Rivers MetroParks. These beautiful art quilts capture the diversity of experiences from urban parks to natural areas. This is at Carriage Hill MetroPark, in the Visitor Center.

Another quilt exhibit tells you about the world's major faiths and philosophical traditions. You become aware that the central message in all of these life-views has its roots in the same ethical foundation. This is at the Dayton International Peace Museum.

A week from Sunday, July 13th is WYSO's Open House....details here.

And finally, Leon Bey, who was famous as the guide for downtown Dayton history walks, has died at the age of 71. Memorial Service will be held in the Christ Episcopal Church, in downtown Dayton on Sunday at 2:00 PM.
