The DAI is offering a look back at the World Wars this summer, with the special exhibitions Call to Duty: World War Posters, and Tears of Stone: World War I Remembered, Photographs by Jane Alden Stevens. It features more than 80 original war posters from World War I and World War II and some huge photographs. This is opening tomorrow on The Fourth of July.
The newest members of the Dayton Metro Library family are a mascot and its sidekick, but they don't yet have names. You are invited to choose their names by voting online or in person now through July 15. Winning names will be announced when the mascots are introduced to the public in August.
The League of Women Voters is looking for nominees for Dangerous Dames of Dayton celebration. This Award was established in honor of the Dayton suffragists. The award is given to honor women who dare to continue to challenge all odds and make a difference for the common good.
Washington Centerville Public Library is offering a Community Read of Rachel Carson's ground-breaking environmental work Silent Spring. The outcry that followed its publication forced the banning of DDT and spurred revolutionary changes in the laws affecting the air, land, and water. To participate, simply checkout and read a copy of Silent Spring and then join other citizens to discuss about it.
Individuals, organizations and businesses will be recognized for providing extraordinary assistance to low-income and disadvantaged people in our community by helping them to gain access to justice and secure stability in their lives. Nominees may be an attorney or other advocate who has demonstrated concern and dedication to assisting individuals in need. This is the Access to Justice Awardsand the deadline is next Friday.
