What's Great in Dayton: July 10 - 16, 2015

The Summer in the City Street Party is taking place tonight from 5 to 8 p.m. in downtown Dayton. It will feature live entertainment, food, and beer, and will showcase downtown Dayton's performing arts groups. This kicks off the Dayton Philharmonic's new Summer in the City concert series. It's also the first night for the Victoria Theatre Cool Films series and they are showing American Graffiti.

The Signature: A Poetic Medley Show is a live production that has earned a reputation across the Midwest for being edgy, thought provoking, vibrant, ground breaking, funny, and more. This 2 hour production will include a variety of local comics, singers and visual arts and is tonight at the Loft Theatre.

You can see and buy all kind of old beer cans and get a free appraisal of your breweriana! This is tonight until 7:00pm; and Saturday, 8:30 till 4:00pm. It is at the Dayton Eintracht Singing Society Lodge on Old Troy Pike. It is one of the best beer can shows in the country. There will be quality raffles, live auction, Dayton beer brats, open bier garden, and free camping.

In 2012 the pioneers of "no-cost" healthcare clinics treated nearly 2,000 patients in Bristol, Tennessee. The film Remote Area Medical gives the extraordinary stories of the patients, desperate for medical attention, and it creates a lasting impression about the state of modern healthcare in America.  A panel discussion will be held after the movie with local physicians and health policy advocates. This film is at The Neon on Sunday, 3:00 - 05:00 PM, and is Free.

The newest members of the Dayton Metro Library family are a mascot and its sidekick, but they don't yet have names. You are invited to choose their names by voting online or in person now through Wednesday. Winning names will be announced when the mascots are introduced to the public in August.
