What's Great in Dayton: August 15 - 21, 2014

Enjoy performances by American Indian flutists from throughout the region, and sample their foods including Indian tacos, bison burgers and corn. It is this afternoon and evening and Saturday and Sunday at the SunWatch Indian Village.

When you are thinking about the Native Americans of Ohio usually it is only just arrowheads. But in reality there was an immense breadth and diversity of stone tools crafted by them. On Saturday at 1:00 at the Serpent Mound you will learn how many less familiar ancient tools and artifacts were used, and what they reveal about the people who used them.

A Must-Taste Event of the Summer is in Springfield on Saturday. 35 of the Midwest's best food trucks are selling their unique menu items to food enthusiasts from all over the area. The Springfield Rotary Gourmet Food Truck Competition will set up camp in Veteran's Park from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and this is also home to the annual Summer Arts Festival.

Sunday has a new open air flea market. This is on East Dayton on Third Street and Bates, from 11am - 4pm. Local farmers and artists, food trucks and vendors. Come out and spend Sunday afternoon there.

The Lincoln Society of Dayton is having their 5th Old Fashioned Ice Cream Social on Sunday, in the Grove at Carillon Park from 4 until 7. There will be games of Lincoln's time plus an opportunity to meet President and Mrs. Lincoln. This is in cooperation with Dayton History and is open to all without charge!
