Updates To NPR News Programs On WYSO

Beginning November 17, 2014, you will notice some changes to NPR News programs on WYSO.

First, we welcome Ariel Van Cleave as the host of Morning Edition and a new reporter in the WYSO news room. She comes to us from Alaska, where she was the Morning Edition host and reporter at stations in Homer, Kenai and Dillingham.

Secondly, NPR is changing the national clocks for Morning Edition and All Things Considered.  For the most part, features and newscasts will be in the same place during each hour, but during Morning Edition, you’ll hear news headlines three times per hour. WYSO news features will now generally play at 6:45, 7:45 and 8:45, which affects regular features like Poor Will’s Almanac (now every Tuesday at 6:45 and 8:45).

NPR newscasts will begin at one minute past the hour as they have for many years, but during Morning Edition, you’ll hear national news at 19 minutes and 42 minutes past the hour also.  Afternoon newscasts during All Things Considered will remain at the same times.

The clock changes affect all NPR stations and allow more flexibility for stations to insert local programming.  At WYSO, we’re excited about these new opportunities to expand our local news.
