President-elect Donald Trump was in Cincinnati Thursday night for the first stop in a victory tour. He said the visit was for two reasons: to thank his supporters for his November win, and to discuss his action plan to make America great again. Trump relied heavily on that catch phrase and others from his campaign.
He used the slogan "drain the swamp," referring to getting rid of career politicians in Washington. He also pledged to "build the wall" along the Mexican border.
Trump also acknowledged the deep divide among American voters.
"We have so many problems to fix in our country. But I know that if we set aside our differences, and we do have differences. We're a very divided nation, but we're not going to be divided for long," he told the audience.
Trump said his administration would have open arms.
"We're going to invite everyone from all political persuasions to join our movement to help us achieve our goals for this country: great schools, safe neighborhoods, a thriving economy, and a government that only answers to the people, our people."
Trump urged supporters to fight as hard for his proposals as they did to get him elected.
"We are going to need our government and this movement to be more engaged and more vigilant than ever before to help us accomplish the reforms and overcome decades of stalemate and gridlock."
Trump said he has spoken to Democrats and told them gridlock can't continue. "We're going to get together, and I believe they want to get together. We're going to make joint decisions. And the nice part? Our victory was so great, we have the House, we have the Senate, and we have the Presidency," he told the cheering crowd.
Trump talked a lot about his election victory.
"How well did we do in North Carolina?" he asked, diverting from comments on what he would do with companies that threatened to move jobs overseas.
The President-elect repeated campaign promises including lifting regulations on businesses, revitalizing the coal industry, renegotiating or exiting the North American Free Trade Agreement, and working with companies to bring jobs back to the United States from overseas.
Earlier in the day, Trump appeared with Vice President-elect Mike Pence at an Indianapolis factory where he said he helped prevent the company from laying off hundreds of workers.
A spokesman for Carrier told the Associated Press the company received $7 million in state tax incentives.
Vice President-elect Pence gave all the credit to Trump. "Make no mistake about it, Carrier chose to stay in Indiana because America chose to make Donald Trump the next President of the United States."
