17-year-old Keyan Moore has pleaded guilty to charges related to a fatal shooting last year outside the Dayton Mall.
The teen was with two friends on December 20th when one of his friends allegedly tried to rob someone.
The Miami Township Police Department saysthat friend, 16-year-old Jawaad Jabbar pulled out a gun to try to steal a pair of shoes from a man with a concealed carry permit. The permit-holder shot Jabbar once, and he died later in the hospital.
The concealed-carrier was not charged, and Keyan Moore’s lawyer Patrick Mulligan maintains Moore was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
“The whole theory of the state’s case is one of complicity, and this was really all about what two other people did, and the question is was Mr. Moore even involved?” Mulligan said.
Moore was charged as an adult with felony murder—that’s the crime of committing any felony that results in a death, even an accidental one. That was later reduced to reckless homicide and fifth degree felony theft. He could face up to 4 years in prison, but Mulligan is pushing for probation.
The concealed carry permit-holder who shot Jabbar is considered a victim of the robbery. The Montgomery County prosecutor’s office isn’t releasing his name.
