Judges for the nationwide America in Bloom contest will be descending on Springfield Thursday and Friday to evaluate the city's landscape for a chance to be named the Best Blooming City.
two national experts in historic preservation and horticulture will be judging Springfield's community involvement aesthetics and heritage. Judges will look closely at the city's urban forestry, landscaping, environmental efforts, floral display and community involvement.
Melanie Witt, chairwoman for the Springfield in Bloom Committee, says this is the second year Springfield has participated in the competition. The city was defeated by Bloomington, IA last year and this year competes against Fayetteville, AR and Escondido, CA.
