The Springfield City School District's Board of Education voted unanimously Thursday night to hire Dr. Robert Hill from Lorain County's Firelands School District  to replace retiring Superintendent Dr. David Estrop.

Estrop announced late last year that he's retiring in June because of legislative changes to the state’s retirement program. He's been in charge of the district for six years and has spent nearly 45 years in education.

Hill, who's been at Firelands since 2012, says he is looking forward to taking over and will continue to support the programs that Estrop championed like the Hispanic Outreach Program and Global Impact Stem Academy.

Last night Hill accepted a four-year contract that will pay him $152,000 per year. His wife Rachel is a Springfield native and graduate of Wittenberg University. Hill received his master's degree and doctorate from Ashland University.

The couple has two children and will move to Springfield this summer.
