Sinclair Urges Passage Of Levy For Programming And Facility Upgrades

Sinclair Community College has a 1-mill, 8-year additional property tax levy on the ballot for Montgomery County voters Tuesday. Sinclair President Stephen Johnson says passing Issue 13 would allow the college to upgrade both manufacturing and health programs on campus, and add a new health sciences facility.

“This levy will help us with more capacity and higher quality in classrooms and labs that otherwise would not be possible, and the result of that will be better trained, more competent healthcare workers for our region,” he said.

The plan includes a redesign and additional construction to building 14 on the downtown Dayton campus.

Johnson says Sinclair is the largest provider of healthcare workers in the region and several large healthcare organizations are backing the efforts of Citizens for Sinclair—the group behind the Issue 13 campaign which has spent almost ½ million dollars in marketing the levy request.

The levy would cost the owner of a hundred thousand dollar house $35 dollars a year, and raise about $8.5 million dollars for Sinclair.
