The leader of the Ohio Senate says a bill to repeal the state's disputed election law will be introduced in the coming weeks, and his fellow Republican lawmakers are looking at rules to replace the contentious measure.
Ohio Senate President Tom Niehaus told reporters Wednesday that it's too early to tell whether any replacement legislation could be passed before November's general election.
The state's top election official has called for lawmakers to scrap the election law. The law has been put on hold until voters can decide this fall whether it should be tossed out. The election overhaul shortens Ohio's early voting period, among other changes.
Niehaus says it's possible there could be three new separate bills on the state's petition process, local boards' operations and early voting.
