Prosecutors have asked a judge to dismiss some or all the charges against the former head of of the International Monetary Fund Dominique Strauss-Kahn.
Reuters reports the prosecutors made the decision shortly after meeting with his accuser, who had earlier today asked that a Manhattan district attorney be removed from the case.
AP, Reuters and NBC News New York report that prosecutors have filed motions in court to have the sexual assault charges dismissed. NBC News New York reports:
The development comes more than three months after Strauss-Kahn was arrested, and more than seven weeks after a judge released him from house arrest as investigators admitted they had discovered significant problems with the credibility of the maid.
The accuser, who came forward late last month and identified herself as Nafissatou Diallo, met with prosecutors briefly Monday as the motion was filed. Her attorney has said she was not treated fairly and that the DA bungled the case.
Strauss-Kahn is due in court on Tuesday, where a judge is expected to officially grant the prosecution's request and dismiss the case.
The move comes after questions arose about Diallo's credibility. The AP reports there were also questions "about the strength of the evidence that a forcible encounter had occurred in the hotel room in May."

The AP reports that the court filing has not been made public, yet. But that prosecutors are asking that "all or some" of the charges against Strauss-Kahn be dismissed. We've tweaked our lede to reflect this information.
