Price Will Receive Severance Package

Former Dayton City Manager Warren Price will receive nearly $47,000 as part of a severance package. It was approved by the city commission during its meeting Wednesday night.

The Dayton Daily News reports the payment is equal to about 30 percent of Price’s annual salary and was the result of negotiations between both sides. Because Price was in the job only eight months, he was not eligible for severance under the terms of his contract. Money kicks in only if he was involuntarily terminated after nine months on the job, or after establishing permanent residence in Dayton. Though city officials have said the payment helps settle a personal matter quickly and it felt appropriate.

As part of the separation agreement, Price waives his right to take any legal action or make claims against the city regarding his employment. It also includes a line that reads: “Employee will not disparage in any way the reputation of employer, its officers, employees or agents to third parties.”

Price resigned effective Wednesday. He insists he was not forced out. City officials have already appointed Shelley Dickstein as interim city manager. A search for a permanent replacement will likely not happen until next year.
