Police Offer Details On Officer-involved Shooting

The Dayton Police Department has released more information about the death of 45-year-old Terry Darnell Heath, who was killed during a confrontation with police on Monday night.

Around 10pm Monday, police responded to a report of an argument and stabbing in the 2300 block of Wyoming Street. They found one of the men involved in that altercation, John Hagen, who was taken to Miami Valley Hospital where he was reported to be in stable condition.

Dayton Police Chief Richard Biehl said about an hour after that incident, police received a 911 call from Terry Heath; he said he wanted to turn himself in, but gave no details about his whereabouts. Tips eventually led them to a nearby United Dairy Farmers (UDF) where they say Heath retreated, but also made threatening gestures at them with a knife as they confronted him. Officers Michael Saylors and Eric Sheldon then fired their weapons.

According to Dayton Police, Heath had an extensive criminal record. Both officers are on paid administrative leave until an investigation is complete.
