East End Community Services is hosting the fourth in a series of events to address opiate addiction on Wednesday, August 12th. The event is a partnership with Dayton Mediation Center, ADAMHS, Good Samaritan Hospital, Samaritan Behavioral Health, Cornerstone Project, and the Dayton Police Department.

Jan Lepore-Jentleson is the executive director of East End. She says they started trying to help local addicts two years ago.

“Inner East Dayton, where East End is located, has has one of the most serious concentrations of Opiate overdoses and deaths since the epidemic began”  Lepore-Jentleson says.

The event is for addicts to discuss addiction and look at treatment options. Both medically assisted, and talk based or reflective therapy.

There is also a training for the public to learn about how to intervene if someone is overdosing.

There is no data yet on whether these conversations on Opiate Addiction are having an effect, but Lepore-Jentleson says “We’ve just got to try something.”
