All 435 seats in Congress are on the line in today's election, including a few in the Miami Valley. House Speaker John Boehner is facing Democratic challenger Thomas Poetter in Ohio’s 8th district. Poetter is an education professor at Miami University with little political experience. Boehner’s district is predominantly Republican and wraps around the north and west sides of Dayton.
In Ohio’s 10th congressional district, which includes Montgomery, Greene and part of Fayette counties, incumbent Congressman Mike Turner faces two challengers, Democrat Robert Klepinger and Libertarian David Harlow. Klepinger is a teacher and Harlow is a chemical engineer.
And in the state’s 1st congressional district, including Warren and part of Hamilton counties, incumbent Congressman Republican Steve Chabot is being challenged by Democrat Fred Kundrata. Kundrata is a retired Air Force pilot with experience as a lawyer and small business owner.
In a mid-term year, low turnout is expected and the incumbent Republicans are favored in all three races.
