Local Sports Legend To Be Featured In Documentary

The life of a local sports legend will play out in a short documentary film premiering tonight in Dayton.

In the 1970’s, Dwight Anderson was nicknamed "The Blur" because of his speed on the basketball court. As a sophomore, he led Roth High School to a state championship title in 1975 and as a senior in 1978 was named top high school player in the country.

Anderson went to play for the universities of Kentucky and Southern California and was a second round NBA draft pick for the Washington Bullets in 1982.

Branson Wright, producer of the Dwight Anderson Story and a sports writer for the Cleveland Plain Dealer, says Anderson was sidelined by drugs.  “The substance abuse slowed his career which everyone thought Dwight could have been one of the greats.”

Both Wright and Anderson will be host a Q&A after the screening, presented by The Dayton Human Relations Council, tonight Wednesday, August 26th at 6 o’clock at the Kroc Center in Dayton.

WYSO aired an interview with Branson Wright on Sunday's WYSO Weekend.

Jerry began volunteering at WYSO in 1991 and hosting Sunday night's Alpha Rhythms in 1992. He joined the YSO staff in 2007 as Morning Edition Host, then All Things Considered. He's hosted Sunday morning's WYSO Weekend since 2008 and produced several radio dramas and specials . In 2009 Jerry received the Best Feature award from Public Radio News Directors Inc., and was named the 2023 winner of the Ohio Associated Press Media Editors Best Anchor/News Host award.
