Legal Aid for Ohio Veterans Seen as Possible Model

A call center to start this month in central Ohio will help low-income veterans and active military personnel and their families find free legal assistance.

The joint project of the Ohio/Military Veterans Legal Assistance Project and Capital University Law School will pair up those who are eligible with volunteer lawyers to represent them free of charge in noncriminal cases such as divorces and landlord-tenant disputes. Legal experts say the center is part of a growing effort across the United States to meet the legal needs of those who have served their country.

The center initially will provide referral service in seven Ohio counties. But officials hope the pilot project can expand around the state and perhaps become a model for other states.
