A campaign watchdog with Democratic ties is accusing close allies of Gov. John Kasich of breaking elections ethics laws to donate to Kasich’s Super PAC.

The American Democracy Legal Fund says Mark Kvamme and Paul Johannsen created a new company solely for the purpose of donating half a million dollars to an affiliate of Kasich’s New Day for America.

Kvamme was the first president of Kasich’s economic development engine, JobsOhio.

Mary Jennings, from the group that filed the complaint with the FEC, said the new company has not taken the other steps necessary to be considered a political committee.

“This is basically nothing else than a dummy organization that’s formed whose major purpose is to influence the election,” Jennings said.

The American Democracy Legal Fund, which was founded by supporters of Hillary Clinton, has filed complaints against many of the Republican candidates for president. New Day for America spokesperson Connie Wehrkamp said they’re confident all their activities were legal.
