Governor Considers Cleveland-Area Race Track Move
The governor is considering a deal that would relocate a suburban Cleveland horse racing track to another area of
According to The Akron Beacon Journal, a spokesman for Gov. John Kasich says the administration is looking at a proposal to move the track to Akron.
The deal would be similar to one struck two weeks ago to allow to two other race tracks to move to avoid direct competition with casinos opening in Columbus and Toledo. The agreement is contingent upon the governor receiving legislative approval to allow slots-like lottery machines at the tracks.
Thistledown operator Rock Ohio Caesars also will operate a casino opening in Cleveland. A spokeswoman says the company is exploring options and believes the track could complement the casino in its current location.
