Attendance at Dayton's air show has more than doubled last year's, when a fiery crash claimed the lives of two performers in an Ohio show that also was missing military participation.
Air show spokesman Tim Gaffney estimates that attendance at the Vectren Air Show this past weekend was about 65,000.
That's on par with the air show's average attendance and comes after last year's unusually low turnout of 25,000.
Gaffney attributes last year's low turnout to a plane crash on the first day of the show that killed a pilot and a wing-walker. Both died in front of thousands of stunned spectators.
Additionally, he says federal budget cutbacks forced popular military acts to cancel last year.
Gaffney says the air show's all-time high attendance was 250,000 in 2003.
