Dayton Pride Celebrations To Kick Off This Weekend

Jun 1, 2015

Starting Friday, June 5th, the Dayton LGBT Center and other groups will host a series of events during the city's annual gay pride celebration. The events will continue through Sunday.  In this interview with WYSO's Jerry Kenney, LGBT Center board member RJ McKay gives details on each event and talks about how the event continues to grow in Dayton each year.

According to McKay, the center made significant progress in growing the event this year when PNC Bank stepped in as a major sponsor. They also added a new event into the weekend's festivities with an "An Affair On The Square" beer and food truck rally on Friday afternoon and evening. Dayton's celebrated Rubi Girls will headline the event.

On Saturday, Pride events continue with a morning breakfast at MJ's on Jefferson and the annual parade through downtown Dayton, ending once again at Courthouse Square for an afternoon of entertainment, food and beverages, and more than fifty vendor booths.

At 8pm, Saturday, the Dayton Gay Men's Chorus will perform its annual pride concert.  This year's performance of "Center Stage: A Broadway Review" will feature special guest, Grammy Award winning performer Jennifer Holliday, one of Broadway's original Dreamgirls.

Dayton Pride 2015 wraps up on Sunday morning with a brunch at Wheat Penny Oven & Bar. Full details on these events can be found on the LGBT Center homepage.
