Clark County is likely to see a boost in employment opportunities over the next five years as Speedway and Dole add jobs.

At a recent job growth conference in Springfield, the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce and members of the Dayton Development Coalition pointed to Speedway and Dole's expansion as key factors in Clark County's growth. Speedway is projected to add 350 jobs and Dole expects to add another 150 jobs in the next five years.

Horton Hobbs, the vice-president of economic development for the Chamber of Commerce, explained that the Springfield area is one of the leaders in the state for job growth.

"And I do think that this is more of a trend, investment certainly is going to take place and we feel like we are in a great position to take advantage of that," Hobbs said. He says the county is working to make sure there are qualified people to fill the jobs coming to the area.

"One of the things that continues to come up in all of our conversations and really has for a long time, is the whole discussion around the workforce development efforts and making sure that we have a strong workforce capable to meet the needs of our existing companies," Hobbs said.

Clark County is also hoping to see growth in the new emerging unmanned aircraft industry as the Ohio/Indiana UAS Center and Test Complex is located in Springfield.
