Clark County Democratic Chair Rhine resigns
Clark County Democratic Party Chairman Ron Rhine is planning to retire from his position next year. A search for a replacement is currently underway.
Rhine took over as party chairman in 2007 after taking over the unexpired term of Charlie Bush. He was elected to the position in 2010.
He also served as a state representative and past president of the UAW International Union. He still serves on the Board of Elections.
Rhine, who is 75, informed the Clark County Democratic Party that he wanted to resign and give younger people the opportunity to run for the chairmanship.
Executive Committee officials say they will appoint a new chair to finish the remaining year of Rhine’s term on Jan. 16, 2013. His term was set to expire in 2016.
The committee says that three people have expressed an interest in taking over the party's chairmanship.
Rhine's official date for stepping down is January 9, 2013.
