Clark County Beagle Club Salutes Westminster Dog Show Winner

Miss P, a 4-year-old 15-inch beagle from British Columbia, took the top honors at the Westminster Dog Show this week and members of the Clark County Beagle Club were thrilled the breed was awarded Best in Show.

Miss P's win was considered a huge upset. Beagles have only captured first place twice since 1907. In 2008, a beagle named Uno also won.

Jim Davis is the president of the Clark County Beagle Club.  He says the dog's win is a victory for the everyday pet.

"They were bred to hunt rabbits the hunters would use them to hunt small gamne with, rabbits and pheasants," he explained. "They love people, they love kids. There are very few of them that ever get mean.

WB: The Clark County Beagle Club has been around for more than 60 years and Davis says beagle lovers in the Springfield area are a very dedicated group."

Miss P's win at Westminster didn't bring any monetary rewards, but the beagle and its owners are expected to reap some cash from sponsorships and promotions.
