Wayne Baker is a graduate of Yellow Springs High School and Central State University. He has worked in print media for several years covering news and sports.  Baker has coached youth basketball in the Yellow Springs school system and served on the Human Relations Commission.

Boston Bruins beat out Dayton Dragons as Team of the Year

Street & Smith’s SportsBusiness Journal announced Wednesday that the Boston Bruins have been selected as Professional Sports Team of the Year.  The Dayton Dragons were one of five finalists for the award and the first minor league team ever selected as a finalist.

Equities firm buys Ohio newspapers

The Lima News is one of four newspapers Freedom Communications will sell to a Philadelphia-based private equity firm called Versa Capital Management. Versa has been busy lately buying other papers in Ohio and around the country.

Versa Capital Management has been on a buying spree lately. The company at the end of last week purchased The Telegraph in Alton, Illinois, The Journal-Courier in Jacksonville, Illinois, and The Sedalia Democrat in Sedalia, Missouri. The deal also included the Lima News in Ohio.

Dragons to Honor Military Personnel Saturday Night

The Dayton Dragons, along with  the Dayton Development Coalition, will host the first of two “Hometown Heroes Celebration Nights” at Fifth Third Field on Saturday, when the Dragons host the Great Lakes Loons. The program is part of a season-long celebration to pay tribute to all service men and women associated with Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and the Springfield Air National Guard Base.

Springfield Chamber and WorkPlus sponsor job fair

The Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce has been looking at ways to get companies in Clark County to do more hiring. The Chamber received welcome news when a group of employers asked the organization to sponsor a job fair so they can find qualified people to hire.

Amy Donahoe of the Chamber, says Clark County's unemployment rate was a little over eight percent in March, and that's compared to nine percent at the same time last year. Those numbers would seem to indicate that companies in the Clark County region are not hiring.

Seasons Bistro & Grille brings culinary delight to Springfield

SPRINGFIELD - Doug McGregor and Margaret Mattox, are a brother-sister team and natives of Springfield.  As soon as Doug graduated from culinary school in Colorado, his sister called him and convinced him to come back home and open a restaurant with her nearly five years ago. Seasons Bistro and Grille, is now a big part of Springfield's downtown renaissance and a continuing effort in the family's long line of successful business ownership.
