Springfield Arts Council Undergoes Management Changes

The Springfield Arts Council board of directors has voted to change the organization's operation structure.  The board has decided to eliminate the position of executive director, while creating two positions to run the organization.

The board decided to follow the trend of what other arts council are doing, to have an artistic director and business manager instead of just having an executive director handle both jobs.

Pawn Shops Provide Alternative Shopping Opportunity During Holidays

Black Friday is known for crowded malls and long lines outside of big retail stores.  But with more people strapped for cash these days, pawn shops are becoming a holiday shopping destination.

It's not your parent's pawnshop anymore, according to Larry Beloff, the president of Max's Jewelers and Loan Company in Springfield. He says with new shows on reality TV, like Pawn Stars and Hardcore Pawn, these shops have taken on new appeal.

Wilberforce Forms Transition Team To Find A New President

Wilberforce University announced Thursday that it has organized a transition team to help guide the school in its search to find a a replacement for retiring President Patricia Hardaway whose resignation is effective on December 31.  The school's Board of Trustees hopes the team can find a leader who can bring a fresh vision to the university which is struggling to survive.

Hopes Rest On Boonshoft Expansion

The train exhibit is among the most popular the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery's Upper Valley Mall location.

The Boonshoft Museum of Discovery's satellite operation in Springfield's Upper Valley Mall is up and running in a new, larger space. Mall officials are hoping the museum will lead to an economic revival. 

Youngsters, Riley and Ben, are at the new Boonshoft Museum, admiring a popular exhibit with the sounds of whistles and bright lights glaring around them. Their grandmother, Joe Johnson, likes the fact that the new museum is at the Upper Valley mall, because she lives in Clark County.

Rocking Horse Founder Ousted By Board Of Directors

An ongoing dispute between the founder of Springfield's Rocking Horse Community Health Center and its board of directors has reached a conclusion. An official statement from the board states that Dr. James Duffee is no longer employed there.

Duffee founded the center in 1999 to serve families with little or no health insurance, and he's been very popular with patients.

Recently CEO Dana Engle, who has been there since 2007, left Rocking Horse for another job. Duffee can't comment on his own termination, but he says the board is in a time of transition.
