Sarah Buckingham

Community Voices Coordinator

Sarah's been listening to public radio since she was in the womb. She grew up in central Ohio and came to the Miami Valley to study Philosophy & Media Arts at Antioch College. Some of her previous radio experience includes Prometheus Radio Project in Philadelphia, PA, and Brattleboro Community Radio in Southern Vermont. Back in 2009, Sarah studied radio production at the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies in Portland Maine. She's happy to be back in Ohio where she's been WYSO's Community Voices Coordinator since 2010.

Best of Miami Valley StoryCorps: Doug & Elizabeth Cline

In honor of StoryCorps founder Dave Isay’s visit to Dayton, we’re re-broadcasting some of our favorite Miami Valley StoryCorps interviews, recorded in 2010.

In March of that year, Doug Cline experienced a major heart attack. He was only 51 years old. A month later, Doug and his wife Elizabeth went to the StoryCorps booth to talk about the moment that shook their lives and forced them to re-evaluate their day-to-day priorities.

Miami University Student Veterans

Over the last year, journalism students at Miami University have been interviewing a misunderstood population at their school - student veterans.  As returning soldiers transition back into civilian life with few options in the ever-shrinking job market, going back to school has become a growing national trend across the country.  As the first class attending college on the 9/11 GI Bill graduates this month, student producers set out to capture the more personal and intimate human stories they felt were missing from   coverage on war and veterans’ issues.

Hanukkah Specials on WYSO

WYSO celebrates Hanukkah this Sunday, December 9th with special programming from NPR and Public Radio International.

Tune in at 6:00 PM for Hanukkah Lights. A perennial NPR favorite, Hanukkah Lights features Hanukkah stories and memoirs written by acclaimed authors expressly for the show, as read by NPR's Susan Stamberg and Murray Horwitz.

Then, at 8:00 PM, Mindy Ratner and Bill Morelock explore the customs and music of the holiday on Candles Burning Brightly, from Public Radio International.
