Jerry Kenney

Host, All Things Considered and Producer, WYSO Weekend

Jerry Kenney was introduced to WYSO by a friend and within a year of first tuning in became an avid listener and supporter. He began volunteering at the station in 1991 and began hosting Alpha Rhythms in February of 1992. Jerry joined the WYSO staff in 2007 as a host of All Things Considered and soon transitioned into hosting Morning Edition. In addition to now hosting All Things Considered, Jerry is the host and producer of WYSO Weekend, WYSO's weekly news and arts magazine. He has also produced several radio dramas for WYSO in collaboration with local theater companies. Jerry has won several Ohio AP awards as well as an award from PRINDI for his work with the WYSO news department. Jerry says that the best part of his job is being able to talk to people in the community and share their experiences with WYSO listeners.

Tax Season Begins

January 30th was the start of tax season for many Americans, and IRS officials reminding tax-payers about credits and deductions to be aware of this season.  For WYSO, Jerry Kenney reports.

Jennifer Jenkins with the IRS says several tax deductions got a two year extension during the latest so-called fiscal cliff deal.  Among those getting a two year extension are the State and local sales tax itemized deduction for Schedule A [Form 1040] filers, and a Teacher-Educator Expense deduction.

Wright State, Central State Join Forces

Central State Undergrads will now be able to take master’s-level courses at Wright State University, and use those credits towards their degrees.

In a signing ceremony this morning, scheduled for 9 o’clock, officials from both universities outlined details of the agreement designed to give students an opportunity to jump-start their master’s degree at Wright State while they finish their bachelor’s at Central State.

Education Choice Week in Ohio

This week is “National School Choice Week,” and around the country more than 3500 events are planned over the next several days.  

Dozens of events aimed at raising awareness around School Choice are taking place in Ohio, and the Miami Valley.  Events in Middletown, Troy, Oakwood, Springfield, and last night in Dayton, an event organized by Parents Advancing Choice in Education, or PACE.  Program Manager Daria Dillard-Stone says its purpose was to highlight the need to expand educational options for students, and to ask some simple questions.
