News Director and Host, Morning Edition

Emily’s love of music brought her to public radio, where she found her love for news. After receiving a Bachelor of Arts in music at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, she began her career in 2003 at WFIU Public Radio in Bloomington, Indiana, producing and hosting music and news programs and learning the behind-the-scenes work of public broadcasting. She joined WYSO in 2007 as the host of “All Things Considered” and jumped head first into news gathering. Emily’s been relishing it ever since-her reporting has earned her numerous AP Awards and a nationally recognized Gabriel Award. WYSO has been a fulfilling and exciting place for Emily, where she is privileged to work with a creative and supportive staff.

Montgomery County Says Your Ballots Will Be Counted

As absentee results come in, Montgomery County board of elections official Steve Harsman assures voters their ballot will be counted

"First and foremost, anyone who voted early or by absentee, if their ballot was eligable to be counted, it will be included in that total. There's a myth by a lot of voters in the public and the media that those ballots are only counted if the race is close, and in fact, it's the opposite. It's the first set of results and the ballots that we count first," says Harsman.

1st Congressional District Race in Cincinnati Closely Watched

One of the closely watched races for the US House is in the 1st Congressional district that covers Cincinnati.

Democrat incumbant Steve Driehaus is challenged by Republican hopeful Steve Chabot. Chabot represented the 1st District for seven terms before Driehaus unseated him in 2008 during the Presidential election.

WVXU s Ann Thompson says it's been a very tough race for Driehaus. He lost party support after some bad polling numbers came out in September showing Driehaus twelve percentage points behind Chabot.

Report from Democractic Headquarters

Ohio Public Radio's Jo Ingles is at Democratic headquarters tonight. She said the mood is cautiously optimistic.

"We have people straggling in right now, not a great crowd yet. Usually people don't get here until around 9:30 or 10 o' clock. Most folks who are here say they are cautiously optimistic. They think it's going to be a good night for the democrats regardless of what we keep hearing from the pundits nationwide.
