News Director and Host, Morning Edition

Emily’s love of music brought her to public radio, where she found her love for news. After receiving a Bachelor of Arts in music at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, she began her career in 2003 at WFIU Public Radio in Bloomington, Indiana, producing and hosting music and news programs and learning the behind-the-scenes work of public broadcasting. She joined WYSO in 2007 as the host of “All Things Considered” and jumped head first into news gathering. Emily’s been relishing it ever since-her reporting has earned her numerous AP Awards and a nationally recognized Gabriel Award. WYSO has been a fulfilling and exciting place for Emily, where she is privileged to work with a creative and supportive staff.

Human Performance Wing Gets New Commander

COLONEL (DR.) TIMOTHY T. JEX

Colonel Timothy Jex will be appointed to head the 711th Human Performance Wing at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base at a command ceremony Friday. It follows his promotion to brigadier general. Colonel Jex most recently served as the vice director of the Human Performance Wing. He replaces current director Thomas Wells who will retire from the Air Force after serving for 31 years.

Jex will oversee 2000 personnel. The wing’s mission is to enhance human performance for air, space and cyberspace through research, education and consultation.

Montgomery County Proposes Funding For Area Projects

Montgomery County is recommending nine area projects for funding, totaling nearly $1.5 million. The Ohio Economic Development Government Equity Advisory Committee, or EDGE, is spearheading the request.

One proposed project is a $100,000  investment to create corporate headquarters for the medical manufacturing group, Midmark.  The money would be used to renovate an existing facility at Tech Town. According to a press release from the county, the project would bring 57 jobs to the area.

PoliticsOhio: Kasich's State Of The State Speech

For this week's PoliticsOhio, Emily McCord speaks with Ohio Public Radio's Bill Cohen, who covered the Governor's State of the State speech this week. Cohen reports that while Kasich reiterated themes regarding jobs coming back to Ohio and moving forward on fracking, little new was introduced. He adds that reaction from lawmakers was, as expected, split among party lines and the speech did draw some national attention and criticism from liberal organizations.

Wolfenbarger Nominated As Air Force's First Woman Four-Star General

President Obama has nominated a graduate of Beavercreek high school to become the Air Force’s first female four star general. Lieutenant General Janet Wolfenbarger would serve as commander of the Air Force Material Command at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. According to Air Force Spokesman Matthew Stine, Wolfenbarger would succeed Donald Hoffman, who plans to retire this year. The Senate must first approve the confirmation.

Kasler details where Kasich has been during his first terms as governor, how his tone will compare this year, and what that means for the annual State of the State Speech. She reports that Kasich will likely focus on education and fracking, but it's doubtful Ohioans will see sweeping reforms like last year's collective bargaining initiative.
