Ohio Warns of Unclaimed Funds Email Scam

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The state is warning Ohioans not to fall victim to scam emails telling people they have millions of dollars in unclaimed money being held for them overseas.

Ohio Commerce Department Director David Goodman says in a news release that it's merely a ruse for tricking the message recipients into revealing personal financial information.

Coalition Awards Grants for Great Lakes Cleanup

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - An environmental coalition has awarded $115,000 in grants to nine groups for Great Lakes restoration projects.

The Healing Our Waters-Great Lakes Coalition grants announced this week will help organizations participate in a federal program designed to improve the region's environment by cleaning up toxic pollution, preventing species invasions and rebuilding habitat and wetlands.

Joint Drug Roundup Arrests 44 People

HAMILTON, Ohio – Secret indictments passed down by the Butler County grand jury on Monday led to a joint drug roundup operation that has arrested a total of 44 people on felony charges.

Some arrests were made in Cincinnati, Dayton, and Fostoria, however most took place in Butler County. The roundup is the result of numerous undercover drug operations over the past year.

Ohio State on Alert After 2 Attempted Abductions

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio State University authorities say a man tried to abduct two women in separate incidents near OSU Medical Center on Wednesday.

Both women ran away and were unharmed. The Columbus Dispatch reports one was approached at a bus stop by a man who held a knife with a 3-inch blade to her side and told her she was coming with him. The other woman was grabbed near her car.

The university sent a text message alert and warned people to be aware of their surroundings when walking around campus.

Most School Tax Issues Defeated This Week in Ohio

COLUMBUS, Ohio - This week's special election was one of the toughest in years for Ohio school districts.

The Ohio School Boards Association says voters approved just six of the 23 school tax requests on the ballot around the state on Tuesday. That works out to a passage rate of 26 percent, the lowest in an August election since the 14 percent approved in 2007.
