PoliticsOhio: Party Leaders In Ohio Spar Over Issue 2, Redistricting

In this week's PoliticsOhio, Emily McCord speaks to Ohio Public Radio's Karen Kasler. She interviewed the Ohio Democratic Party leader, Chris Redfern, and the Republican leader, Kevin DeWine. They discussed their views on Issue 2, the ballot referendum on collective bargaining in the state. DeWine and Redfern touch on the Republican proposed congressional district map and the Democrats effort to repeal it on next year's ballot. Kasler also reports on the campaign finance report released this week regarding spending on Issue 2 and what the numbers mean.

More Seniors Use Food Banks During Down Economy

Food pantries around the state say they’re seeing unprecedented numbers of senior citizens needing help. Activists from across the state met for a summit on dealing with hunger among seniors today. Lisa Hamler-Fugitt with the Ohio Association of Second Harvest Food Banks says many seniors aren’t able to take care of their nutrition needs, which she says will cost Medicare and other programs in the long run.

Kettering Rotary is hosting the annual Run for Your Life, 5k Run/Walk on Friday at 6:15p.m. This is at the Community Golf Course and proceeds benefit Girls on the Run and Kettering Rotary.

This weekend , the play Lost in Yonkers is at the Dayton Theatre Guild . This tells the tale of two young boys left by their widowed father in a strange world called Yonkers. It’s a funny, touching and unforgettable drama.

Dayton Area Soldier Killed in Action, Receives High Honor

On November 14th in 2010, twenty-five year old Army Specialist Jesse Snow of Fairborn was killed fighting Afghan insurgents.  Four other soldiers lost their lives in that battle, but Snow is being credited with saving the lives of three servicemen, and preventing any captures before being fatally wounded.

Because of his actions on the battlefield, the U. S. Army is presenting the Silver Star to Jesse’s family.  Jesse’s father, John Snow, is a retired Air Force Chief Master Sergeant.  He says he “always knew Jesse would do something special. ”
