Book Nook: The Elements of Peace - How Nonviolence Works, by J. Frederick Arment

The 1995 Dayton Peace Accords ended that terrible war in Bosnia.  Ambassador Richard Holbrooke was the guiding force behind those successful negotiations which took place on the grounds of Wright Patterson Air Force Base.

In the first chapter of his latest book, "The Elements of Peace - How Nonviolence Works," noted peace activist J. Frederick Arment demonstrates how the art of diplomacy as it unfolded at WPAFB is just one of thirty methods he enumerates  that can help us to achieve peace or to at least maintain it.

Refugees Find A Place To Grow In Dayton

On a warm spring morning, a group of Burundian refugees gather on a Jefferson Township farm for the first day of planting. They work in pairs, turning the soil and tossing seeds into the earth. They’ll plant beans, corn, onions, tomatoes and various greens on the two acres, one of the largest community gardens in Montgomery County.

Funeral Set for Ohioan Killed in Theater Massacre

A native of Springfield killed in the Colorado theater massacre will be buried this week.

The Springfield News-Sun reports a visitation for 27-year-old Matthew McQuinn will be Friday at the Springfield church he attended before moving to Colorado last year.  This funeral will be Saturday morning.

McQuinn was watching the new Batman movie, "The Dark Knight Rises," with his girlfriend, Samantha Yowler, and her older brother when the Friday shooting rampage occurred.  An attorney retained by their families has said the men covered Yowler with their bodies as bullets flew.

First Lady Plans 2 Ohio Campaign Events Tuesday

Michelle Obama plans a campaign appearance today in Dayton for her husband's re-election bid.

The First Lady is scheduled to appear at the Dayton Convention Center at 3:10 this afternoon.  Tickets for the event are no longer available.

Mrs. Obama also has a stop schedule at a high school in Westerville, a suburb of Columbus.

Ohio is a must-win ticket for the president, who must tread carefully in a state where unemployment has continued to drop under Republican Gov. John Kasich.

Kasich lives in Westerville, the site of Michelle Obama's early afternoon speech.
